NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's tennis teams played their last home match of the season on Friday as they hosted ranked St. Thomas University (Fla.) early at the City Park Tennis Center.

St. Thomas, which is ranked No. 11 in the NAIA on the women' side and No. 17 on the men's, won both matches by a score of 4-1.

Loyola's women's team now has an 11-6 overall record, while the men are back at .500 with an 8-8 record.

Both teams got a win at the No. 1 position in singles. Reigning NAIA Women's Tennis Player of the Week Lucy Carpenter played well to earn a straight-sets victory at 6-4, 6-2. On the men's side, Francisco Javier Arce Vieyra also won in straight sets: 6-2, 6-3.

Carpenter now has a 10-5 record at No. 1 singles, tied with Micaela Ponce for the most singles wins on the team. Arce Vieyra's record at men's No. 1 singles is 7-5, also tied for most wins on the team with Theo Debackere.

Debackere dominated the first set in his match on Friday 6-0, but the second set went unfinished after St. Thomas clinched the match. Ariana Salgueiro-Estela and Tiger Cheung also won the first sets of their matches, which did not finish.

The Bobcats took the doubles point in each match. Loyola did get a double win from Elly Carpenter and Adele Fereres, 6-3 on court 3, but they couldn't get the win on the other two courts.

The Wolf Pack tennis teams will close out the regular season next Friday at noon with a rematch against NCAA D-I school Nicholls, whom they last met on Jan. 31, in Thibodaux, La. After Nicholls, Loyola will prepare for the SSAC Championships, which begin April 27.
