WESTWEGO – Head coach Jeremy Kennedy earned his 500th career win and the Loyola Wolf Pack baseball team earned a Southern States Athletic Conference series sweep on Sunday, run-ruling the Blue Mountain Christian Toppers, 10-0, in seven innings.Â
Â
The Wolf Pack (27-15, 12-6 SSAC) is done playing home games at Segnette Field this season, but they'll host one more home series next weekend at Tulane's Turchin Stadium. Game 1 of their series with Faulkner University is set for Friday at 5 p.m.
Â
The Wolf Pack got the bases loaded with no outs in the second inning, as Jake Mills drove in Kason Cullins on a sacrifice fly to plate the lone run of the frame. The Toppers were able to get a flyout to center and a line out to third to end the Wolf Pack's threat. The Pack took advantage of a couple of base runners in the third, though, as Cullins hit his second home run of the weekend with two on to make it a 4-0 lead.Â
Â
Loyola added two more runs in the fifth inning when Brandon Mooney got things started with a leadoff double. Luke Clement sent a chopper to third base two batters later, as the BMCU third baseman threw the ball away to bring in Mooney, 5-0. Clement, who reached third on that error, scored, 6-0, one batter later when Cullins doubled down the right-field line. After that, the Pack scored four runs in the seventh inning to bring the run-rule into effect. Cullins and Christopher Bohrer started the frame off with back-to-back doubles to make it a 7-0 lead, then a fielder's choice off the bat of Ross Selvaggi brought home another run, 8-0. With runners on the corners, Aaron Davis' groundout scored another, then Mooney sent a shot up the middle during the next at-bat to score the game's final run.Â
Â
Nathan Monceaux picked up his sixth win of the season with a seven-inning outing. The freshman allowed five hits during his shutout performance while striking out four and two walks. The Wolf Pack defense was solid behind him, too, turning three double players throughout the game.Â
