NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans men's tennis team began conference play with a road match against nearby Dillard University on Thursday.
Winning the doubles point and four matches in singles, the Wolf Pack earned a 5-2 win over the Bleu Devils, improving to a 3-5 overall record this season.
The Wolf Pack made a statement to start the match, with the duo of Francisco Javier Arce Vieyra and Samuel Motazed winning 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. So far, they're the winningest pairing for the Pack this season at 3-1.
Loyola also got a doubles win from Herman Aure and Remus Hebhang-Balan on court 3 to head into singles competition with a point.
Aure started out singles on a high note, winning in straight sets on court 6. With two more straight-sets victories from Theo Debackere and Arce Vieyra at the top two flights, the Wolf Pack had clinched the match before Dillard was able to get a point. Aubin Duchier also outlasted his opponent in three sets on court 4, giving the Pack their fifth point on the score line as the team picked up its first conference victory of the season.
The Wolf Pack will continue conference play with a home match against NAIA No. 7-ranked William Carey, scheduled for March 14 at noon in New Orleans City Park.
