KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Loyola Wolf Pack volleyball team made history Monday afternoon. For the first time since 2002, the Wolf Pack will compete in the NAIA National Championship tournament, which was announced during the NAIA's Selection Show.Â
Â
Loyola put together a 26-6 overall record this season to earn an at-large berth in the tournament, and it'll travel to Southern Oregon University on Saturday for an opening-round match. The winner will advance to the final site of the championship - Sioux City, Iowa - where the final 24 teams will compete in pool play before an eight-team single-elimination tournament to crown the NAIA National Champion.Â
Â
The match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18, at 5 p.m. CST at Southern Oregon's Lithia Motors Pavilion in Ashland, Oregon.Â
Â
SOU also enters the tournament with a 26-6 overall record, which was highlighted by a win over No. 7 Corban (Ore.) earlier this month. The Wolf Pack has two wins over currently ranked teams, defeating No. 9 Jamestown and No. 21 Central Methodist during early season tournament play. During the season, the Pack earned victories over four teams that made the field of the National Championship: Jamestown, Central Methodist, Mobile, and Xavier.Â
Â
Prior to Loyola's semifinal round exit at the SSAC Championship last week, six Wolf Pack student-athletes were honored as All-Conference, including libero Simone Moreau who earned the SSAC Defensive Player of the Year title. Moreau was joined by Amaya Bazemore and Emily Sheperis on the All-Conference First Team and Simone Tyson and Alexa Palmer were picked to the second team. Palmer and Ellie Connor both made the All-Freshman Team as well.Â
Â
Loyola's 26 wins so far this season is the most for the program since the Wolf Pack won 28 in 2012.Â
