MT. VERNON, Ga. – The Loyola Wolf Pack volleyball team completed their two-game Georgia road trip with two wins after another dominating effort at Brewton-Parker College, defeating the Barons in three sets (25-8, 25-18, 25-13). After its win over Middle Georgia State on Friday night, Loyola is now 2-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play and 9-5 overall.Â
Â
The Pack will hit the road for one more away match next week, traveling to SSAC foe Mobile on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup. Following that, they'll play their first home match in The Den since Hurricane Ida, hosting Life University and Talladega College next Friday and Saturday.Â
Â
Loyola collected five kills from three players and two service aces by Brittany Cooper to help take a 10-2 lead. Alicia Simmons and Emily Sheperis each recorded two during that opening stretch, then Simone Tyson had back-to-back attacks to extend the advantage to 13-2. Amaya Bazemore and Emma Fahy combined for a couple of blocks, and Bazemore cleaned up a poor BPC over attempt to help make it a 17-5 score. From there, Loyola scored eight of the final 10 points to close out the first set.Â
Â
Brewton-Parker hung tough to start the second game, but three attacks by Juliet Petruzelli and Kala Emanuelli gave the Pack the slight edge early, 7-5. The Barons hung around, as they continuously cut Loyola's lead down to two or even a single point, 13-12 and 15-14, but Sheperis kept Loyola ahead with a powerful attack after a long rally, and Emanuelli followed that up with one kill, too, 16-14. With Rebecca LaCour serving, the Pack created some separation thanks to kills by Fahy and Bazemore, 19-14. BPC tried to get back in the game, but a service ace by Simone Moreau capped things off for the Pack, 25-18.Â
Â
Simmons got the Pack off to another hot start in the third set, finding the floor twice on attacks early, 4-1. Sydney Love then became a force at the kill, winning battles at the net to record three kills and two blocks, 11-4. The Pack would go on to extend that lead to 16-6 before BPC made a slight run, 16-11, but attacks by Fahy, Madeline Corrall and Natalie Burkholder helped squash the home team's slight momentum. Corrall's and Moreau's service game helped seal the match, as the freshman, Corrall, recorded two aces while Loyola's libero, Moreau, served up one.Â
Â
"We were able to get contributions from everyone today, which was great to see. I'm proud of our ability to adapt and push towards success as we make changes on the court. We have a packed week coming up, but we're excited to be back in our gym next weekend."
