MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack hit the road for the 15h straight match to start the season on Tuesday, losing a three-set match to the University of Mobile (25-16, 25-22, 25-22). Loyola is now 9-6 overall this season and 2-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play with two league contests this weekend.Â
Â
The Wolf Pack will make their long-awaited return to The Den this weekend for two matches, which will be the first true-home matches for the program since Hurricane Ida in August 2021. Loyola is set to host Life University Friday night at 6 p.m. before welcoming Talladega College on Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
Â
Loyola fought out of an early hole in the first set, going down 7-1 and 10-2 in the early going. A handful of errors by Mobile and a kill by Alicia Simmons did cut the score to 11-7, however, Mobile pushed back ahead 17-11. Simone Tyson, Amaya Bazemore and Emma Fahy all record kills in an attempt to get back into the game, but Mobile took the first set, 25-16.Â
Â
After an early 2-2 tie in the second set, Loyola played within striking distance, falling behind by at most four points in the game. A couple of attacks by Bazemore make it a 7-5 Mobile lead, then Brittany Cooper had a couple of kills to keep it close, 11-8. After the Rams jumped up 19-14, Bazemore, Cooper and Emily Sheperis combined for four kills to tie the set, 20-20. After another tie at 21-21, Mobile pushed ahead to take the 2-0 match lead, 25-22.Â
Â
Bazemore and Tyson helped take a 4-0 lead in the third set, and the Wolf Pack maintained a multi-point lead thanks to seven more attacks by the Loyola offense and a service ace from Sheperis. Leading 17-11, Mobile fought back by winning nine of the next 12 points to tie the game, 20-20, then after a 22-22 tie, the Rams won the final three points to claim the match.Â
