The Loyola University New Orleans competitive cheer and dance programs competed in their second competition of the season on Friday
NEW ORLEANS – The competitive cheer and dance seasons are well underway, and on Friday the Wolf Pack cheer and dance programs competed at Xavier's Battle in the Big Easy for their second competition of the season. Both teams took part in two different competitions, one was a multi-team competition while the other was a head-to-head format.
The Wolf Pack dance team started the day with the multi-team event, placing in second place out of nine competing teams. Loyola scored a 79.2 while first-place Aquinas recorded a 79.7 score to edge the Pack. Third-place Montreat scored a 73.07, Vanguard was fourth with a 70.63 mark, then Ave Maria (66.80), Our Lady of the Lake (62.23), Dillard (48.56), Talladega (44.76) and Keiser (38.6) followed in order.
Following the dance event, the Loyola cheer team battled seven other teams for its multi-team competition, and the Wolf Pack also placed second overall with a 75.16 score. Xavier won easily with a 95.03 mark, then Williams Baptist (69.7), Aquinas (68.08), Montreat (51.2), Keiser (50.4), Dillard (46.86) and Talladega (41.73) followed the Pack in third through eighth place.
In the afternoon on Friday, the Battle in the Big Easy turned to head-to-head events, pitting the Wolf Pack dance team against Dillard and the Loyola cheer team against XULA. The competitive dance team easily beat Dillard in its dual, winning by a score of 74.57 to Dillard's 54.63. On the cheer side, the Wolf Pack improved their score from the multi-team competition, but Xavier still won the dual 94.1 to Loyola's 83.1.
The two Wolf Pack programs will now head to Miami Gardens, Florida, for the NAIA Regionals next Friday, Feb. 19.
