Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas. – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team traveled across state borders Tuesday for its second NCAA Division-I exhibition of the season, as the Wolf Pack fell 76-63 against Lamar University.
Loyola will return to The Den on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. contest against Southeastern Baptist. This will be the third meeting between the Wolf Pack and the Chargers in the past three seasons, with Loyola winning the previous two matchups by an average of 44 points.
Lamar jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first two minutes, but it was matched by a 13-0 Wolf Pack run, with Jazmene McMillan, Sandra Cannady, and Kennedy Hansberry all scoring in that span. The Pack led 13-5 at the five-minute mark of the opening period, but the home team came back with a run of their own, tying things up 18-18 going into the second quarter.
A putback layup was the only basket for Loyola in the first seven minutes of the second as the Cardinals regained the lead, stretching it to as many as 10 at 31-21. A layup and three-pointer by Cannady kept the Pack within single digits at the break, with Lamar holding a 34-26 lead at halftime.
After six first-half points, Kennedy Hansberry came out firing in the third quarter, scoring seven points in the first five minutes. Sydni Tangle also got on the scoreboard, adding five points in the third, but Lamar won the frame by eight points, extending their advantage to 14 points, 58-44 heading into the fourth.
Never quitting on the game, the Pack cut the Cardinal lead to single digits with just over a minute to go, 68-60, off of two free throws by Hansberry. Lamar was able to keep Loyola at arm's length for the remainder of the game, however, to win 76-63.
