BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team started its season off right, winning both games at the SSAC/Sun Conference Challenge over the weekend. After taking down No. 6 Southeastern (Fla.) on Friday, the 17th-ranked Wolf Pack defeated Florida Memorial on Saturday, 103-72.Â

Loyola (2-0) will host its home opener at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday against Southern University at New Orleans.Â

The Wolf Pack continued to ride the momentum they built from the previous night, scoring 28 points in the first quarter to lead by 13 after 10 minutes of play. Kennedy Hansberry scored seven early points, including a 3-pointer, to take an 11-4 lead in the first four minutes. Jazmene McMillan added four quick points, 18-6, and Tera Snell got on the board a couple of minutes later to extend the lead to double digits, 23-12. McMillan added a 3-pointer in the final minute to bring the score to 28-15.Â

Kate Petrovic hit a 3 in the first two minutes of the second quarter, 32-15, but both teams struggled to make a field goal through the first five minutes of game time. Free throws by MG Lymon and Taylor Thomas made it a 38-16 game, though, and Tay Cannon and Liz Critton each scored to push the lead to 42-19. Sandra Cannady made two shots in the final minutes to give the Pack a 53-40 advantage by halftime.Â

Sydni Tangle and Cannady combined to score six straight points for the Wolf Pack at the beginning of the third quarter, and Critton made it a 27-point lead a couple of possession later, 61-34. Cannady and McMillan kept the Pack up by 20-plus over the next couple of minutes, then Cannady pushed the advantage over 30 with two and a half minutes left in the frame.Â

In the fourth quarter, Morgan Hervey and Jada Washington both made shots to make it 13 scoring players for Loyola, as the game was never in doubt in the final 10 minutes of play.Â

Wolf Pack players combined to shoot 29-41 from the foul line. It's the most free throw makes for the team in a single game since Feb. 15, 2014, when the team had 34.Â

Freshmen Jada Washington and Isabella April played in their first games for the Wolf Pack, while Morgan Hervey played nine minutes, making her return from injury in her first game since her freshman season.
