Box Score

With three players scoring at least 20 points, Loyola completed a season sweep of Brewton-Parker with a 98-69 win Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – For the fifth game in a row, the Loyola Wolf Pack women's basketball team won by double digits over a conference opponent, defeating Brewton-Parker 98-69. Sitting atop the Southern States Athletic Conference standings, Loyola improves to 14-4 overall and 8-2 in conference play.

After a three-game home stand, the Wolf Pack will hit the road for one game as they face the University of Mobile on Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m.

While Brewton-Parker scored the first two points of the game and kept it close in the first part of the opening quarter, Loyola's most dominant period came in the first 10 minutes, as the Pack scored 23 points while allowing just 12. Tay Cannon couldn't miss in the frame, as she led the team with eight points and five boards while shooting 3-of-3 from the field, 2-of-2 from the free throw line in the first nine minutes of play. Fellow senior Kennedy Hansberry also played well in the quarter, scoring seven points while dishing out two assists.

Loyola scored 25 points in the second quarter, and once again it was Cannon doing most of the heavy lifting. Cannon missed just one shot in the quarter, going 4-for-5 with eight points scored. Taylor Thomas also started to heat up in the second, making both of her attempts from the field, including one three-pointer, with three assists. Sydni Tangle got on the board in the second quarter as well, hitting her first three less than two minutes into the period.

Led by Cannon, Hansberry, and Thomas all scoring in double figures in the first half, Loyola would take a 48-28 advantage into the halftime break.

The Lady Barons scored the first four points coming out of the break, but the Wolf Pack again had a good response, as the home team put up its highest-scoring quarter of the game in the third. Led by Hansberry's seven, Loyola would score 26 total points in the period. Hansberry and Sandra Cannady combined for four trips to the free throw line, with each putting up identical numbers at 3-for-4 in the quarter.

Leading 74-52 heading after three, Thomas closed things out with an 11-point fourth quarter, shooting 5-for-6 in the frame. MG Lymon also checked into the game for six points and two steals in the final nine minutes as Loyola cruised to their fifth-straight win.
