Walter Ramsey and Catherine Coldiron each performed well at Saturday's Lyon College Invitational, and both were named the Association of Independent Institutions Runners of the Week Monday
NEW ORLEANS – Senior Walter Ramsey and freshman Catherine Coldiron have been rewarded for their impressive performances at Saturday's Lyon College Invitational, as each was named the Association of Independent Institutions' Runners of the Week Monday.
Monday was also the first weekly cross country awards the A.i.i. have given out this season. Because of the spring schedule flexibility, the Wolf Pack is competing as an independent in the A.i.i. this season as opposed to the Southern States Athletic Conference, but they're set to rejoin the SSAC for the 2021-22 academic year.
The Wolf Pack traveled to Cave City, Arkansas, Saturday to participate in the Lyon College-hosted event, which is a preview of the A.i.i Conference Championship later this month. The Loyola men's team dominated the event, claiming first, second, third and fourth place individually to run away with its third team win of the season. The women's team placed third of the four teams with two Top-10 finishers.
Ramsey claimed first place overall in the men's 8-kilometer race, running a 26:39.69 on the challenging course. It was the third first-place finish of Ramsey's career and the first of the season, as the Marietta, Georgia, native won Saturday's event by nearly 40 seconds. Ramsey's sub-26-minute time was his best 8-kilometer time of the season.
After winning the Wolf Pack Invitational in February, Coldiron placed second in Saturday's 5K race with a time of 20:53.45. The freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, has led the Wolf Pack in all three meets this season.
