Wolf Pack cross country begins season in Baton Rouge

Two Loyola cross country athletes competed in the LSU Invitational Friday

BATON ROUGE – A pair of Loyola cross country athletes got their 2021 fall season started Friday morning in Baton Rouge, as two Wolf Pack racers competed against NCAA runners at the LSU Invitational. The Loyola student-athletes faced-off against runners from LSU, Louisiana, UNO, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Alcorn State, Dillard and William Carey.

Alex Medina got things started for the Wolf Pack in the 6,000-meter race, racing against 49 competitors, then Madisyn Acosta capped off the morning with the 45-woman, 5,000-meter race. Both Medina and Acosta finished 29th overall in their respective races, as Medina registered a 21:50.23 time in his 6K race while Acosta posted a 22:57.93 in her 5K event.

Friday was Medina's first time competing in a 6K race in his Wolf Pack cross country career, too.

After having its home meet, which was scheduled for Sept. 10, canceled due to Hurricane Ida, Friday was the first time Loyola cross country got to compete this season. The Wolf Pack's next scheduled meet is Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Nicholls State Invitational in Thibodaux.
