The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Winfield, Kansas, Saturday for their final meet of the regular season
WINFIELD, Kan. – The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's cross country teams made the long trip to Winfield, Kansas, for their final regular-season meet of the season Saturday, as both teams finished near the middle of the pack of 20-plus teams.
The women's team turned in a 11th-place finish out of 25 teams in the 5-kilometer race, as five of the six runners earned a new personal-best time Saturday. The men's team placed eighth out of 22 teams in the 8-kilometer event, and Hayden Ricca recorded a time that made it into the Top 10 in the Loyola record books.
Madisyn Acosta led the Wolf Pack with a 40th-place finish out of 182 runners, earning a new personal-best time of 20:17.7, and Amber Byrd ran a 20:57 to finish in 54th place. Jasmine Martinez, Isabel Esteb, Lauren Goens and Mallory Foret all ran personal-best times, too. Martinez's 21:28.6 was good enough for 72nd place, Esteb ran a 21:44.9 to finish 81st, Goens' 22:03.1 had her in 86th place, and Foret finished 96th with a time of 22:43.2.
The Wolf Pack men's team was led by Ricca's 14th finish, as the senior ran a 26:15.9 to record the 10th-fastest time in Loyola history for an 8K race. He now owns four times in the Top 10, including the school record. Christian Hanson was next for Loyola, finishing 42nd out of 225 runners with a time of 27:44, and Gabe Jacobson and Alex Medina placed back-to-back in 60th and 61st with times of 28:12.6 and 28:18.1, respectively. Phoenix Aquino-Thomas also placed inside the Top 100, running a 28:40.2 to place 81st. Garrett Hunsucker (107th, 29:30), Miguel Thomas (114th, 29:37.8), and Peter Nelson-Broderick (122nd, 29:48.7) finished off the Loyola runners.
