The Wolf Pack men's and women's teams competed at the Lyon College Invitational Saturday, held at the site of the upcoming A.I.I. Championships.
CAVE CITY, Ark. – The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Lyon College Invitational Saturday against Lyon, College of the Ozarks, and Cottey College. The Wolf Pack men's team won the event, while the women placed third.
The Loyola men have won all three events they've competed in this season.
Walter Ramsey claimed his first individual victory of the season while running his fastest 8K time of this year, 26:39.69. It's the third individual crown of Ramsey's collegiate career, and his first since 2018, when he placed first in the Major Blazer Invitational.
The next three runners to finish also wore Wolf Pack uniforms, with Hayden Ricca (27:20.14), Christian Hanson (28:05.05), and Peter Nelson-Broderick (28:16.54) placing second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Loyola placed three more in the Top 10: Daniel Welch (28:49.14) in seventh, Gabe Jacobson (28:52.14) in eighth, and Alex Medina (29:34.45) in 10th.
Catherine Coldiron led the way on the women's side, finishing the 5K race in 20:53.45 to place third overall. It's her second-straight week placing in the top three individually.
Amber Byrd was the other Top-10 finisher for the Wolf Pack, running a 22:07.15 to place 10th. The next three runners for the Pack were Madisyn Acosta (22:25.14) in 12th, Isabel Esteb (23:45.11) in 18th, and Jasmine Martinez (23:49.89) in 19th.
Next up for the Wolf Pack cross country teams is the Association of Independent Institutions Championship on the same course in Cave City. Lyon College is the host, and the A.i.i Championships is set for March 27.
The course was challenging with long, steady hills and uneven footing. I'm glad we came to run the course because it will definitely help come conference time in a few weeks. The men did a nice job against Ozarks, who won the A.i.i last year and went to nationals, and Walter (Ramsey) ran wonderfully. The women were not 100 percent healthy and didn't get out well. They had to play catch-up the whole race. Catherine Coldiron did a great job of moving up to place third. The difficulty of the course slowed times considerably.
