Wolf Pack wins 11th straight game Tuesday

Box Score

The Loyola Wolf Pack took a break from conference play Tuesday, defeating Louisiana College for the season's 21st win

WESTWEGO –  The Loyola Wolf Pack won their 11th straight game Tuesday, defeating Louisiana College 12-6 Tuesday at Segnette Field. The win moves the Wolf Pack to 21-8 overall this season.

Loyola returns to Southern States Athletic Conference play this weekend when No. 6 Faulkner comes to town for a three-game series starting Friday. The Wolf Pack and Eagles will play Game 1 Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.

Loyola fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but it scored four in the next half inning to take the lead for good. Tucker Ganley tied the game off Michael Calamari's RBI single to left, then Kason Cullins picked up two RBI with a bases-loaded single. Patrick Crifasi, who walked earlier in the inning, scored on an error to give the Pack a 4-1 lead after the first inning. Calamari picked up another RBI in the second inning, plating Brandon Duhon on a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 5-1.

Louisiana College scratched one run across in the fifth inning, but the Wolf Pack put crooked numbers on the board in the six, seventh and eighth innings to pad their lead late in the game. Cullins got things started with a solo home run in the sixth inning, then Calamari notched his third RBI with another single to make it a 7-2 lead. After the Wildcats scored two in the top of the seventh, Cullins added two more RBI in the next half inning to help extend the advantage to 9-4. Gabriel Trastoy singled to right after Cullins to push the lead to 10-4, and with two runners in scoring position in the eighth, Crifasi made it a 12-4 game with a single to right-center field.

Eight Loyola pitchers saw action Tuesday, as Wyatt Lankford got the start and pitched the first inning. Reid Perkins pitched the next two innings with a couple of strikeouts, then Alexander Acevedo allowed one earned run with three strikeouts over the next two innings on the mound. Michael Toscano, Trace Messina III and Rhyse Dee each pitched an inning, combining to allow just one hit and two unearned runs, then Jacob Coleman and Lawrence Frishberg both made appearances in the ninth inning.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Jeremy Kennedy

On the team's performance:

"We squared a bunch of balls up. A lot of them were outs, but the process was right and we squared them up so that's all you can really ask for. We got a bunch of guys innings tonight, too. The bullpen guys who haven't pitched much, it's their opportunity during these midweeks to compete and fight for more of a role on the weekends. It's good to get them in and see what they can do."

On Kason Cullins' performance:

"Kason had a great night. He had his first home run, made a big-league play in center field and had four hits. He was also good on the bases. We didn't have him last weekend and it obviously good to have him back. He's a good player with a lot of energy who brings a lot to the table."
