The Wolf Pack faced Blue Mountain Thursday to begin the conference's annual regular season competition
MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams traveled to the Mobile Tennis Center to compete at the annual SSAC Round-Up, a slate of four matches which started Thursday.
The No. 21 Wolf Pack women's team began the competition on a high note, defeating Blue Mountain 4-1. It's the first conference victory of the season for the Pack, who started the season with a tough match against No. 3 Xavier.
On the men's side, the Toppers pulled off the upset, winning 4-0.
Loyola secured the doubles point after winning on all three doubles courts for the first time this season. Lucy Carpenter and Fatima Vasquez won 6-2 to improve to 3-1 at No. 1 doubles this season. Madelynn Chavez and Nadja Ochsner won on Court 2, and Manuela Alban and Selma Fereres won on Court 3.
Carpenter and Vasquez each also won singles matches in straight sets, as Vasquez improved to a 3-1 record this season at No. 2 singles. The other singles win for Loyola came from Manuela Alban, who won on Court 4.
In the men's match, the duo of Aubin Duchier and Samuel Marin won 6-4 in Court 1 doubles, but the Pack lost in every other match.
SSAC action at the Mobile Tennis Center continues on Friday, when Loyola takes on William Carey at 10 a.m. The Crusaders are ranked No. 4 in the NAIA in both the Men's and Women's Coaches' Polls.
