Loyola wins road contest at Spring Hill Tuesday

Box Score

The Wolf Pack used nine pitchers in Tuesday's matchup with the Badgers, earning their 14th win of the season

MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack won their fourth straight game Tuesday, defeating Spring Hill 7-3 on the road to continue their winning streak. Loyola is now 14-8 on the season and it'll start Southern States Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Stillman College at Segnette Field.

The Wolf Pack used nine pitchers to throw a combined five-hitter with eight strikeouts. Wyatt Lankford got the start for Loyola and allowed a solo home run in the first inning, but he retired the other three batters with two fly balls and a groundout. Alexander Acevedo pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the second with two strikeouts, and Rhyse Dee had just one batter reach base in the third, which came via an error.

Reid Perkins and Trace Messina III were next out of the bullpen for the Wolf Pack, as Perkins had two strikeouts in a scoreless fourth inning while Messina needed just six pitches to record a 1-2-3 frame in the fifth. Jacob Coleman faced the minimum in the sixth, using a double play to get out of the inning, and Wes Anderson notched a couple of strikeouts in the seventh. Brett Fisackerly walked one batter in the eighth, then Matthew Champagne ran into some trouble in the ninth before finishing off the game with a strikeout and two fly outs.

After Spring Hill took a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the first, the Wolf Pack answered with three runs in the third off three hits and three errors. Aaron Davis led off the frame with a double down the left-field line, then scored when Brandon Duhon reached on an infield error. Payton Alexander gave Loyola the 2-1 lead with a double two batters later, and Allen Dennis' single put the Pack up 3-1.

Loyola added an insurance run in the seven inning, as Davis led off the inning with another double. After swiping third, Davis made it 4-1 when Tucker Ganley hit an infield single, then Michael Calamari provided even more cushion with a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to extend the advantage to 7-1. The Badgers pushed two runs across in the bottom half of the ninth to bring the game to its final, 7-3.
