Loyola cross country hosts Wolf Pack Invitational Friday

The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's cross country teams hosted their first and only meet of the season Friday, as both teams claimed first place

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Wolf Pack Invitational at New Orleans City Park Friday, as both teams claimed first place out of three competing teams.

For the Wolf Pack men, it was their second win in as many tries this season, while it's the first time on top for the Loyola women's cross country team since 2017.

On the men's side, Hayden Ricca and Walter Ramsey finished first and second for the second straight meet, as Ricca finished four seconds ahead of Ramsey with a 15:51 time compared to Ramsey's 15:55. Peter Nelson-Broderick joined Ricca and Ramsey in the Top 5 with a fourth-place finish (16:51), his third career Top 10.

Gabe Jacobson, Daniel Welch and Alex Medina all placed in the Top 10 as well, and all three finished within 14 seconds of each other. Jacobson led the group with a 17:04 time, Welch was next with a 17:13, and Medina was close behind with a time of 17:18. Cameron Johnson (18:07, 13th), Dylan Smith (18:22, 16th), Cooper Talbott (18:58, 21st) and Cristian Delgado (22:58, 26th) all competed in the meet, too.

Catherine Coldiron, Amber Byrd and Madisyn Acosta paced the women's team with Top 5 finishes, as Coldiron led the way with a second-place finish with a time of 20:22. Byrd placed third after running a 20:31 and Acosta took fifth with a time of 20:59.

Jasmine Martinez and Isabel Esteb helped Loyola's cause with 12th- and 14th-place finishes, running times of 22:24 and 22:49, respectively. Zoe Dunekack (24:13, 19th) and Hannah Ivory (27:44, 24th) also competed.

Both Loyola teams are set to run at the Lyon College Invitational in Cave City, Arkansas, Saturday, March 6, which will be a preview of the conference meet later that month.

Men's and Women's Cross Country Geoffrey Masanet

I was very happy for the women to win the race today. Our whole Top 5 raced very well and moved up throughout the race. It was a very encouraging race from them! For the men, Hayden and Walt raced great up front, somewhat as expected. Peter Nelson-Broderick raced well also. Gabriel Jacobson had a breakthrough race and I was very happy for him."
