Madelynn Chavez, Samuel Marin, and Fatima Vasquez each secured singles victories Tuesday against the DI opponent
NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans tennis teams played host to an NCAA DI opponent Tuesday in City Park, as the teams faced off against Nicholls State.
Loyola was supposed to open the season against the Colonels in January, but the matches were postponed.
The result of both the men's and women's matches was 5-2 in Nicholls's favor, as the Wolf Pack teams each dropped to 0-2 records this season.
Fatima Vasquez claimed both singles and doubles victories Tuesday in the women's match. Vasquez teamed up with Lucy Carpenter for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, though Nicholls won the doubles point. Then in singles play, Vasquez dropped the opening set 6-0, but rallied to take the next two 6-3, 7-5.
Loyola's other point came by way of a Madelynn Chavez singles victory, 6-0, 6-2 on court three.
In the men's match, Nicholls only had five players available due to health and safety protocols, awarding Loyola with a singles point by default. Samuel Marin scored the other point for the Wolf Pack, winning a three-set match 0-6, 6-3, 6-1 on court three.
Next up on the schedule for the Wolf Pack is the Southern States Athletic Conference Round-Up, a slate of four conference matches starting March 18.
