Box Score The No. 22 Wolf Pack hosted their first home game of the season Saturday, defeating Louisiana Christian University at Tulane's Devlin Fieldhouse
NEW ORLEANS – After five straight games away from Freret Street to start the season, the 22nd-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack women's basketball team finally got to play a home game at Tulane's Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. In the first of consecutive home games, the Wolf Pack defeated Louisiana Christian University 87-53 to win their fifth straight win and improve their record to 5-1.
The Wolf Pack will be back at Devlin Fieldhouse Tuesday, hosting Dillard for their annual School Day game. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
Tay Cannon scored Loyola's first four points, giving it the early 4-2 lead, then a 3-pointer by Taylor Thomas was answered by LCU to tie the game at 7-7 midway through the opening frame. Down by two, Sandra Cannady and Thomas scored, followed by another score by Cannady to make it a 13-9 Loyola lead with 2:48 left in the first. Jazmene McMillan and Kennedy Hansberry got on the board for the Pack to help take a 17-14 lead after 10 minutes.
Kate Petrovic was feeling it to start the second quarter, sinking two 3-pointers in the first three minutes to push the lead to 23-16. Hansberry got in on the action from deep, too, drilling a 3 moments after the pair by Petrovic, who wasn't done making an impact from beyond the arc. The Cypress, Texas, native made her third 3-pointer of the quarter immediately after Hansberry's, giving the Pack a nine-point lead, 29-20.
After a Cannady score, Thomas scored the team's next six points, adding another 3-pointer, then the junior assisted Petrovic for another score, 39-25, with three minutes left in the half. Thomas and Cannon each notched two points down the stretch to take a 43-30 lead into the break.
Cannon, again, got Loyola started at the start of the second half, pulling down a rebound, racing down the floor, and finding Cannady for a lay-in basket, 45-30. Tera Snell added onto the lead with a second-chance bucket, 47-30, and Sydni Tangle got her first points moments later to put Loyola ahead 49-33 two minutes into the third quarter. Louisiana Christian started to cut into the Pack's lead, though, making it a seven-point Loyola advantage midway through the frame. Cannady and Thomas combined to score the next six points, extending the score back out to double digits, 55-42, and back-to-back steals late in the quarter by Cannady helped make it a 65-46 Wolf Pack lead with 10 minutes to go.
The Wolf Pack dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 22-7, as Liz Critton, Jada Farrell and MG Lymon all scored to give the team 11 scorers in the game.
