Box Score The Wolf Pack women's basketball team made it look season Saturday in The Den, defeating Southeastern Baptist by 62 points
NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team made quick work of its opponent Saturday, defeating Southeastern Baptist 116-54 in The Den to move to 3-0 on the season.
Jazmene McMillan began her career-day with the game's first five points, connecting on a 3-pointer 1:16 into the game. The freshman added another bucket a minute later, then Taylor Thomas converted a steal into a fastbreak basket to push Loyola's lead to 9-2 early.
McMillian finished with 12 points through the first 10 minutes, which included two 3-pointers in the opening frame. The Wolf Pack grabbed control of the contest with a 25-7 lead after the first quarter.
Shawna Torregano scored eight of her first-half nine points in the first three minutes of the second quarter, extending the Wolf Pack's lead to 33-13. McMillian got another 3-pointer to go, then Morgan Hervey scored all six of her first-half points in a two-and-a-half-minute span, making it a 49-16 game. Sydney Nunley scored seven points in the final four minutes of the half, giving Loyola a 60-20 halftime lead.
Loyola kept its foot on the pedal thanks to seven points from Thomas through the first three minutes of the third quarter. A combination of Tay Cannon and Tera Snell scored Loyola's final 13 points of the frame, as the Wolf Pack led 85-31 with 10 minutes to play.
As if the Wolf Pack could play any better, Nunley started to get hot in the fourth quarter. The sophomore making her debut scored 14 of the team's first 15 points to start the fourth, pushing the lead to 100-44. Dajja Williams scored 10 more points to finish off the game.
The next opponent on Loyola's schedule is North American University, and that game is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, in The Den.
Pack Facts
Loyola was one point away from tying the program record with the most points scored in a game (117), and it was the most dominant win for the Wolf Pack (62 points) since defeating Brewton-Parker by 62 points on Jan. 4, 2018.
Freshman Jazmene McMillan scored in double-figures for the first time in her short Loyola career, scoring a game-high 24 points.
Loyola started 3-0 for the second straight season, and it's the fifth time Loyola started the season 3-0 since Kellie Kennedy took over the program prior to the 2008-09 season.
Sophomore Sydney Nunley scored 21 points in her first career game for the Wolf Pack.
At least 13 players scored for the Wolf Pack, as Taylor Thomas (15), Dajja Williams (10) joined McMillian and Nunley in double figures.
Williams' 10 points were a career-high for the sophomore.
Kennedy Hansberry's 12 assists and six steals were both career-highs for the junior.
Taylor Thomas recorded her first career double-double in the contest, adding 10 assists to her 15 points. Her four steals tied a career-high as well.
