Loyola faced off against top-ranked Middle Georgia in tough matches in both the men's and women's tournaments
MOBILE, Ala. – Loyola University New Orleans's run at the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships ended on Thursday as both the men's and women's tennis teams dropped matches against Middle Georgia State at Mobile Tennis Center.
Due to inclement weather, the matches began with singles play, where the No. 14 Wolf Pack women's team, seeded third in the tournament, was able to win two tough three-set matches against the second seed. Down 4-0, Gabrielle Terranova claimed the first point for the Pack with a 5-7, 7-6 (10), 6-1 win on court five, followed by Arianna Pepper also coming back to score a 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory on court three.
The No. 7 Lady Knights, however, picked up the match-clinching victory in the first doubles match to finish on court three, as they advanced with a 5-2 team win.
Loyola's men's team also took on Middle Georgia, the top seed in the tournament. The No. 4 Knights won five singles matches in straight sets to advance with a 5-0 team victory. The only singles match to remain unfinished was Ernesto Telles's contest on court six, where he was up a set as the match concluded.
