Loyola Drops Two in Doubleheader With Martin Methodist

The Wolf Pack staff allows 18 runs on 29 hits in the two home games

WESTWEGO, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team fell in a pair of home games with Martin Methodist Friday evening at Segnette Field, losing the first 6-3 and the second 12-4.

In game one of the series, Brenden Taravella got the start for the Wolf Pack (13-17, 0-11 SSAC), and held the opposing RedHawks (17-12, 5-6 SSAC) off the scoreboard for the first four innings of work. While the visitors would plate a run in the fifth and sixth innings, Loyola responded in the bottom of the sixth after Allen Dennis singled and came around to score. In the final inning, Martin Methodist would climb out to a 6-1 advantage, however, the Pack could only score two in the final frame, falling by a final tally of 6-3.

With the visitors scoring a single run in the top of the first inning of game two, the Wolf Pack responded with two of their own, as a single from Payton Alexander brought Nathan Law across home plate followed by a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. The RedHawks slowly pushed their lead further as the game went on, eventually winning by a score of 12-4.

The two teams will finish up their three-game series tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game at Segnette Field. The Wolf Pack will honor their 2019 senior class, Jesse Jordan and Charlie Seiter, before first pitch.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust

"In game one, Brenden was throwing a great game for us, but we went to the bullpen and they had a big inning on us. In game two, Mickey was a little sore this week, he didn't have his real good stuff like he's been having. But you have to give Martin Methodist credit, they had good at bat after good at bat and swung the bats really well; we didn't have an answer for them. We didn't give up any big innings, but we gave up a lot of twos and ones. Same old story, I told the guys after the game, we just have to come back confident tomorrow and try to win a game in the series."
