Strong Performance Against Our Lady of the Lake Gives Wolf Pack 8-1 Win

Loyola sweeps the doubles points before taking five courts in singles

NEW ORLEANS – Hosting their third consecutive match at home in City Park, the Loyola University New Orleans men's tennis team took down Our Lady of the Lake Saturday afternoon 8-1.

"Our guys had a strong performance today and got the job done," said assistant coach Eduardo Garcia. "We started strong in doubles and were able to keep the momentum going into singles."

At court one in doubles, Tiger Cheung and Joseph Short won their match with a dominating 8-0 game, advancing to 7-1 together on the year, while Emilio Saenz and Ernesto Telles won their match at court three 8-2. On court two, the duo of Alexander DePascual and Samuel Marin swept their opponents as well 8-0, giving the Wolf Pack a 3-0 advantage headed into singles.

After recently earning his first career ITA singles ranking of No. 38 in the country, Cheung won his singles match at court one 6-0, 6-1 and remains undefeated at the lead court this season at 3-0. At court six, Saenz took down his foe by the same score of 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the team victory by giving the Wolf Pack a 5-0 lead.

Loyola would pick up three more singles victories, with Telles winning at court five 6-3, 6-2, George Fourmaux picking up a 6-4, 6-2 victory, and DePascual coming out on top of a tough 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 match.

"Overall, it was a good win," said Garcia. "Now we're ready to get back to practice and have a strong end of our season."
