Tiger Cheung (FR/Hong Kong) finished the match with wins in both singles and doubles, but the Colonels came away with the team victory.
THIBODAUX, La. - Finishing the previously rained out match from early February, the Loyola University New Orleans men's tennis team fell 4-2 to NCAA DI Nicholls State University on Sunday morning.
"Even though we started a little slow," said assistant coach Eduardo Garcia, "our guys competed well today. We couldn't get the win but we are proud of the effort we put in and are now setting our eyes on our final match of the season next Friday!"
On Feb. 3, the Wolf Pack (11-6) started out the match playing well in doubles, striking first as the duo of Ernesto de Diego (SR/Panama City, Panama) and Alexander DePascual (JR/Metairie, La.) scored a 6-4 win on court one. The match at No. 2 went to a tiebreaker, which the team of Sean Presti (JR/Lesigny, France) and Tiger Cheung won 7-1 to take the match 7-6, securing the doubles point before play was suspended due to rain.
The two teams resumed action today, with Cheung also impressing in singles play.
"Our highlight of the day," Garcia said, "came from Tiger Cheung, who put on a strong performance to win 6-2, 6-4 at the number 3 position!"
The Colonels, however, would pick up victories on four other singles courts to end the match at 4-2. Galileo Cabrales (SO/San Salvador, El Salvador) had forced a third set in his match on court two before his match remained unfinished due to Nicholls clinching.
The Wolf Pack close out their regular season with a men's and women's double header against Lewis and Clark College held at the University of New Orleans on April 13 at 3 p.m.
