The Wolf Pack faced the top-seeded teams on each side of the bracket in today's semifinals
MOBILE, Ala. - Taking on the No. 1-seeded teams in each of their Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championship semifinal matchups, the Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams both fell 5-0 on Friday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The fourth seed in the tournament, the Loyola men took on the NAIA No. 5-ranked University of Mobile, the top-seeded team in the tournament. Playing in their home town of Mobile for the championship tournament, the Rams swept doubles and claimed wins on courts two and three in singles for the 5-0 victory to advance to the final round.
On the women's side, the fifth-seeded Pack also faced the top seed, NAIA No. 6-ranked William Carey. The Lady Crusaders claimed a 5-0 result on Friday afternoon, sweeping doubles and posting wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots to advance to the championship round. SSAC All-Conference selection Koral Martinez (JR/Lajas, Puerto Rico) claimed a victory at the No. 1 spot in the teams' matchup earlier in the season and was up a set in today's No. 1 singles match, but it ended unfinished.
Despite the semifinal losses, both Wolf Pack men's and women's teams had historic seasons, with each setting single-season win records by finishing 12-8 and featuring four All-Conference selections between the two teams, as well as seven All-Academic Team selections.
