Loyola Drops Doubleheader With Louisiana College

For the first time this season, the Wolf Pack drop both games in a doubleheader, falling in two with the NCAA Division-III Wildcats

WESTWEGO, La. - In a two-game Saturday series, the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team dropped two contests with NCAA Division III foe Louisiana College Saturday afternoon at Segnette Field, falling 12-.3 in game one and 9-6 in game two.

The Wildcats (6-0) began the day with a quick 5-0 lead on the Wolf Pack (5-4), and would add a sixth in the third. Loyola added two of their own in the fourth inning, when Charlie Seiter doubled to left field to bring across Jesse Jordan on first. Seiter eventually came around to score after Rosenbohm hit a single to center, to make it 6-2 in favor of the visitors. The Wildcats added six more unanswered, before freshman Luke LaCoste connected on his first home run of his career to bring the final score to 12-3 Wildcats.

In game number two, the Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the second. The visitors extended their lead on the Pack with a seventh run in the top of the third, before Loyola responded in the bottom of the same inning. After Jase Biehl reached on a walk, Spencer Rosenbohm doubled down the third base line. On the following ground out for the pack, Biehl came across to put the home team on the board, before Ben Condara brought Rosenbohm across on an RBI single. After the Wildcats walked in a bases-loaded run for Loyola, Allen Dennis his a sac-fly while Michael Toscano slapped a single to left to bring the run total to five in the inning.

Louisiana College would later add two more runs in the fifth and seventh inning, before the Pack hit their second seventh inning home run of the day, this time by Payton Alexander, to make it 9-6. Loyola was unable to keep the rally going, dropping their fourth game on the year.

The Wolf Pack will remain at home this week, hosting the College of Saint Joseph in Vermont this Wednesday, February 21st in a doubleheader at Segnette Field beginning at 4 p.m.

Wolf Pack Head Coach Doug Faust

"It was a rough day, but we knew they could swing the bats. That team can always hit and we didn't do a good job pitching to them. We fell behind in counts, made a couple of mistakes defensively, and they took advantage of every opportunity we gave them and continued to get big hits. We're not the kind of team that can fall behind six runs early and get back in the game, because we can't just slug away with people. We need to play more small ball and find a way to score runs."

"That was kind of the tale of both games, the big hits we gave up early, and that put us behind the eight-ball. I was proud of the guys for battling in the second game and getting back into it, but we just didn't do the job in any phase of the game. They out-hit us, out-pitched us, and outplayed us. I told the guys after the game that today is just two games out of 55. We have to move on, get back to work Monday, and try to get better."
