Box Score Loyola returns to action when it travels to Alexandria, La. to take on LSU-Alexandria on Nov. 15, with the game scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
In the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader at Dillard Wednesday night, the Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team dropped its first game of the season, with a final score of 68-57 in favor of the No. 15-ranked Bleu Devils.
The game overall was closer than its final numbers indicated, as Dillard only took a one-point lead into halftime at 29-28. Except for the final five minutes, the two teams exchanged blows, with Loyola taking a lead and holding it until a little over seven minutes remained in the second half when the score was 50-48. From then on, however, it was all Dillard, as the Bleu Devils finished the game on a 20-7 run to seal the victory.
Loyola's first loss of the season drops its record to 2-1, while Dillard improves to 2-1 with the victory.
Terry Smith, Jr. led the Wolf Pack with 11 points, and also posted a team-high nine rebounds. Tre'Von Jasmine (JR/Edgard, La.) also chipped in 10 points on the night. Nick Parker (SR/Port Allen, La.) led the team in assists with four.
Every Wolf Pack player who stepped on the court Wednesday night scored at least one basket, but the team as a whole only shot 32.8% from the floor (21-64). It was a game where both teams shot below 40%, with Dillard only hitting on 25 of their 68 attempts (38.6%), but that small difference would be enough for the home team to pull out the win.
Forward Patrick Thompson recorded a key double-double for Dillard, scoring a game-high 21 points on 7-13 shooting while also grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. Guard Rakim Lesame also picked up a double-double, tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for the Bleu Devils were guards Jessie Ward (11) and Quinton Jackson (10).
