Both programs will continue the round-up against Martin Methodist College and Middle Georgia State on Sunday, April 3, at 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, respectively.
(Mobile, Ala.)- The Loyola University New Orleans Men's and Women's team competed in a Southern States Athletic Conference Round-Up on Saturday afternoon.
The women's team competed against No. 6 Brenau University and the men faced off with Brewton-Parker University. Both teams will continue the round-up tomorrow starting in the morning.
It was a tough matchup for the women's team as Brenau came in on a seven-match win streak. The Wolf Pack dropped all their matches en route to a 9-0 final score.
Alexa Mancuso (JR/Leawood, Kan.) had the best day for Loyola as she won a game in both singles and doubles competition with teammate Lauren Rosales (JR/San Antonio, Texas). Rosales was unsuccessful in her singles match and fell in straight sets.
Margaret Adams (FR/Fairhope, Ala.) and Isabel Junquiera, who have both progressed well over the year, took a game in their No. 2 doubles match but lost 8-1. The teammates went their separate ways for singles competition and lost in straight sets.
Anna Katherine Brunini (FR/Madison, Miss.) and Natavia Mitchell (FR/Austin, Texas), who are members of the volleyball team, dropped their singles' matches in straight sets. They also paired up in doubles' competition but fell 8-0.
"It was a tough loss to a very good Brenau team," assistant coach Meghan de Baroncelli said in response to the match, "We definitely improved and are continuing to progress in the direction we want."
The men started off the three-match weekend with a big win over Brewton-Parker, 9-0.
Steven Le (JR/Tustin, Calif.) highlighted the Wolf Pack's impressive victory with a No. 1 singles victory in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Prior to his singles victory, Le combined with Ernesto de Diego (SO/Panama City, Panama) for an 8-2 match victory in the No. 1 doubles position.
Sebastian Gomez (FR/Marietta, Ga.) and Ricky Mercado joined Le with two victories on the day, as they teamed up in the doubles category with an 8-1 advantage and won their singles matches in straight sets.
Chris Fourmaux, who has had an impressive season,and Anthony Zaleski (SO/Munster, Ind.) each one their singles matches to round out the Pack's unblemished victory.
"This was a good match to start the weekend," Baroncelli said post match. "It will help prepare us for some tough matches tomorrow."
