Loyola baseball drops 9-4 decision at Bethel University on Saturday

Loyola drops to 10-3 overall and 0-3 in the SSAC following the loss. Wolf Pack return to Segnette Field on Tuesday to take on Blackburn College at 6:00 p.m.

After dropping both games of yesterday's doubleheader, the Loyola University New Orleans Baseball team returned to Wildcats Park on Saturday afternoon for a single game against Bethel University.

Despite being up 3-0 after three innings, the Wolf Pack fell 9-4 to the Wildcats on the road.

Loyola drops to 10-3 overall and 0-3 in the SSAC following the loss.

OF Jordan Wilson (SO/San Francisco, Ca. ) went 3-for-4 with a team-high two runs in the third spot. IF Luis Anguizola (JR/David, Chiriqui, Panama) tallied a game-high three RBI and recorded his fourth home run of the season. OF Alexander Lorenzo (JR/Miami, Fla.) collected the other RBI for the Wolf Pack on Saturday, while OF Rawlings Elam (SO/Houston, Tx.) chipped in one run and one hit in the loss.

P Ben Condara (0-1) got saddled with the loss after giving up five hits and four earned runs.

With the score knotted at 0-0 after two innings, IF Blake Toscano (JR/Metairie, La.) came to the plate and got hit by a pitch to land one runner on with one out. Toscano attempted to steal second on the very next play but got caught to clear the bases with two outs. On the eighth pitch of the at bat, OF Rawlings Elam connected on a double to left field.  Wilson followed with a walk to give the Wolf Pack two men on with two outs.  Facing a 3-2 count, Anguizola sent a shot over the right field fence to put the visitors up 3-0 after three innings.

Loyola's lead did not last long as Bethel tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.

The score stayed at 3-3 until the top of the seventh when the Wolf Pack put one run on the board thanks to a RBI up the middle by Lorenzo to score Wilson from third.

Down 4-3, Bethel used the next two innings to put up six runs and take a commanding 9-4 advantage heading in to the top of the ninth.

The final inning ended with two strikeouts to give the home team the 9-4 victory and the sweep on the Saturday.

The Wolf Pack return home on Tuesday, March 8, to take on Blackburn College. First pitch from Segnette Field is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
