After starting the season with three-straight victories, the Loyola University New Orleans Baseball team hit the road on Monday to take on DIII Louisiana College.
The Wolf Pack fell to the Wildcats in both games of the doubleheader, dropping an 8-1 decision in game one before falling 6-5 in game two.
With the losses, Loyola drops to 3-2 on the year while Louisiana College improves to 2-4 after Monday's twinbill.
Game One: Loyola 1 – Louisiana College 8
Jr. IF Luis Anguizola (David, Chiriqui, Panama/Colegio San Agustin)collected the lone RBI for the Wolf Pack in game one, knocking in So. IFRawlings Elam (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas High) with a single past the shortstop. Anguizola also recorded a game-high 11 putouts in the loss. Loyola tallied four hits in game one, with So. IF Ben Condara (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas), Jr. IF Britt Pellegrin (Bourg, La./South Terrebonne), Sr. C Daniel Pappas (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) and Anguizola each notching one.
On the mound, Sr. RHP Kevin Lindsey (Baton Rouge, La./Catholic) (1-1) got saddled with the loss after giving up four hits and six runs (two earned) in five innings pitched.
For the Wildcats, Austin Futrell led the way with two hits and three RBI.Tyler Lamers got the win after allowing only one earned run in four innings.
Game Two: Loyola 5 – Louisiana College 6
R-Jr. SS Blake Toscano (Metairie, La./Holy Cross), So. OF Jordan Wilson (San Francisco, Calif./George Washington High) and Jr. OFAlexander Lorenzo (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) each collected a RBI for the Wolf Pack in game two. Fr. IF Jesse Jordan (New Iberia/Erath High School) notched a team-high two runs and four assists, whileAnguizola collected a game-high 11 putouts.
Sr. RHP Daniel Posway (Sugarland, Texas/Strake Jesuit College Prep) (1-1) got the loss after surrendering six runs (one earned) and six hits in four innings pitched.
Louisiana College used four pitchers in game two, with Tripp Davis getting victory in three innings of work.
After being down 1-0 to start the game, the Wolf Pack put up three runs in the top the second inning. Lorenzo led off the inning with a homer to tie the game, before a sacrifice bunt by Jordan scored Pellegrin from the third to put Loyola up 2-1. Jordan would later score off a wild pitch to bring the score to 3-1 after one and half innings.
The Wildcats quickly answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead back at 4-3 heading into the third. Following a scoreless third, Louisiana College tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the advantage to 6-3.
Neither team managed any runs in the fifth and score remained 6-3 heading in to the visitors half of the sixth. Jordan started the sixth with a double and advanced to third following a groundout by Elam. Toscanofollowed with a double to left field to score Jordan and cut the deficit to 6-4 with one out. Wilson came to the plate and flied out to left field to scoreToscano from third and bring the score to 6-5. The Wolf Pack would be unable to manufacture any more runs in the inning and scoreboard read 6-5 heading to the bottom of the inning.
With the score stuck at 6-5, Loyola had one more chance to steal the victory in the top of the seventh. Closer Miles Holley Jr. proved to much for the Wolf Pack in the seventh, striking out three-straight batters to hand Louisiana College the 6-5 victory in game two and the doubleheader sweep.
Loyola will make the long trip of Florida on Friday, Feb 12, to take on Webber International in a three-game series.
