(Pineville, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis both earned victories today over Louisiana College, with the men defeating the Wildcats 9-0 and the women taking a 7-2 win.
The doubles pairs of junior David Mayhall and sophomore Federico Mercado, and freshmen Ricardo Mercado and Ernesto de Diego, swept their doubles competition 8-0, while the pair of senior Tony Benjamin and freshman Anthony Zaleski earned a 8-1 victory.
In singles play, Trivesh Singh took down Andrew Sylvester 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 position. de Diego and Mayhall both earned 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in the No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively. Ricardo Mercado beat Parker Burt 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot, Zaleski defeated Pedro Silva 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 position, and Benjamin took down Victor Souto 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot.
For the women, the doubles pair of senior Meghan de Baroncelli and sophomore Alexa Mancuso defeated Kortney King and Isabella Santamavia 8-1 while the duo of sophomore Lauren Rosales and junior Wesley Dejoie took down Taylor Payne and Katelyn Thibodaux 8-2.
de Baroncelli earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Angie Rios in the No. 1 singles position, Mancuso beat King 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot, and Rosales defeated Thibodaux 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 position. Junior Madeline Smith took down Payne 9-7 in the No. 4 position and Dejoie swept Santamavia 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.
The Wolf Pack will travel to Mobile, Alabama for conference bouts against Bethel, Martin Methodist and Auburn Montgomery Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.
