(Mobile, Ala.) The Loyola University New Orleans men's tennis team was swept by No. 21 William Carey University and Middle Georgia State College today, March 27 in the first day of competition at the SSAC Roundup held at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Wolf Pack dropped its first match of the day 9-0 to the Middle Georgia State Knights. The No. 1 doubles pair of sophomore Federico Mercado and freshman Ernesto de Diego put up a fight against Shem Alexis and Nishanth Rebello, but could not hang on, falling 9-7. de Diego also fought hard against Elliot Wharton in the No. 3 singles spot, but dropped his match 7-6, 7-6.
Loyola fell 9-0 to the William Carey University Crusaders Friday afternoon. Mercado and de Diego also played in the No. 1 doubles position against Ricky Keppeler and Theo Baudin, but ultimately fell 8-3.
The Wolf Pack men will resume action tomorrow at roughly 10:30 a.m. as they take on the No. 11 Belhaven Blazers. The Loyola women's team will face No. 20 William Carey at 9 a.m. before a match against the Blazers immediately following.
