The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams fell to the Martin Methodist Redhawks and Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks this afternoon in their final matches of the SSAC Roundup in Mobile, Alabama.
(Mobile, Ala.) The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams fell to the Martin Methodist Redhawks and Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks this afternoon in their final matches of the SSAC Roundup in Mobile, Alabama.
The men dropped their match against Martin Methodist 5-0 this morning. With the rain delay on Friday, match play was cut short this morning. Once the Redhawks clinched the victory over the Wolf Pack, competition ceased. In the No. 2 doubles position, sophomore Trivesh Singh paired up with freshman Ricardo Mercado, but fell to Cristian Arias and Farith Lozano of Martin Methodist 8-5. In singles play, Mercado and junior Tony Benjamin were the only members of the Wolf Pack to finish their matches, both falling 6-0, 6-0 to their Redhawk opponents.
The Loyola women fell to the Redhawks 4-1. The women's competition was also cut short due to time restraints. The No. 1 doubles pair of senior Captain Meghan de Baroncelli and sophomore Alexa Mancuso fought hard, but ultimately fell to Gema Yusta and Brenda Rique 8-2.
Both the men's and women's squads were swept by the No. 3 ranked Auburn UNiversity at Montgomery Warhawks this afternoon. Both squads only participated in singles competition, with the men dropping their match 6-0 and the women falling 7-0 to the Warhawks.
The Wolf Pack will return home to host Texas Lutheran College on March 19 at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center beginning at 10 a.m.
