Loyola baseball defeats Rust in two more today

Loyola University New Orleans baseball took down the Rust College Bearcats in a doubleheader for the second day in a row. The Wolf Pack beat the Bearcats 11-1 in five innings in the first game, and 11-1 in five innings the second game as well.

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball took down the Rust College Bearcats in a doubleheader for the second day in a row. The Wolf Pack beat the Bearcats 11-1 in five innings in the first game, and 11-1 in five innings the second game as well.

Junior Dylan Gregoire pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win for the Wolf Pack in the first game. Gregoire struck out two batters and gave up no hits in the start. Nick Moore struck out all three batters he faced in the only inning he pitched for the Pack. Jordan Green struck out one and didn't allow any hits in his one inning of work. Jason Roussel closed out the game for the Pack, giving up two hits and one unearned run in the fifth inning.

The Wolf Pack opened the game with three runs in the first inning. With two outs and no one on base, Luis Angiuzola doubled to deep left-center, followed by a walk by John Nicholson. Britt Pellegrin then doubled down the left field line, scoring Angiuzola and advancing Nicholson to third base. Carmelo LoSauro followed with another double, scoring both Nicholson and Pellegrin. The Pack scored four runs in the third inning, with LoSauro hitting a single to rack up two more RBI. Loyola scored four more in the fifth inning as Angiuzola and Nicholson both doubled.

LoSauro finished the game with four RBI and a run scored on two hits in three at-bats. Angiuzola doubled twice and scored three runs. Nicholson, Pellegrin and Daniel Pappas all added two hits for the Wolf Pack.

Charles Sturdivant and Paszuel Talley had one hit each for the Bearcats. Talley took the loss on the mound as he gave up nine earned runs in 4 ⅔ innings pitched.

Stewart Campell earned the win for the Wolf Pack in the second game, pitching two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Joeh Buhler pitched two innings in relief, giving up just one hit and no runs while Connon Thurman closed the game out in the fifth inning, striking out three batters and allowing one unearned run.

The Pack scored four runs in the first inning on four hits. Joseph Kuchler doubled to right field, scoring LoSauro from third base and Brian Reaney from second. Alexander Lorenzo hit Loyola's first home run of the season in the third inning, sending a fastball just over the left field wall to score three runs. The Pack would score one more run in third as Peyton Senner came in off of a sacrifice fly from LoSauro. LoSauro lined one to the right field fence in the fifth inning, scoring Spencer Rosenbohm for the Wolf Pack's final run.

LoSauro went 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Lorenzo was a perfect 3-3 with one home run, three RBI and three runs. Kuchler and Fournet both added two hits while Kuchler and Angiuzola totaled two RBI each.

Glenn Robinson, Quantavius Carter and Richard Boone all picked up hits for Rust. Adonis Golden suffered the loss for the Bearcats, surrendering seven earned runs in four innings pitched.

Loyola will be back in action on Thursday, February 12 as they host SSAC opponent Martin Methodist in doubleheader action at 4 p.m. at Segnette Field.
