(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball earned a pair of victories over Rust College today at Segnette Field. The Wolf Pack beat the Bearcats 11-1 in five innnings in the first game, and 18-1 in five innings in the second game.
Junior Kevin Lindsey earned the win for the Pack (4-2) in the first game, giving up just one hit and one earned run in five innnings of work. Lindsey recorded eight strikeouts and moves to 2-0 on the seaosn with the win. The Bearcats' pitchers struggled with their control all night. Charles Sturdivant surrendered five walks in four innings of work while Markie Dukes gave up six in just a third of an inning.
The Wolf Pack really opened the game up in the third inning. With Alexander Lorenzo on second and Luis Angiuzola on second, John Nicholson ripped a double down the left field line, scoring Lorenzo and advancing Angiuzola to third. Britt Pellegrin followed that up with a hard-hit single to right field, bringing in Angiuzola for the Wolf Pack's fourth run of the game. Nicholson then tagged up and scored from third base on a Carmelo LoSauro flyout. Two batters later, Blake Battle singled to shallow left-center, scoring Pellegrin from third and capping off a four-run third inning.
In the fifth inning the Wolf Pack got only one hit but still managed to score for runs as the Pack drew five walks and Nicholson was hit by a pitch.
Jordan Wilson walked three times, scored three runs and stole three bases in the win. Lorenzo went 2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Nicholson was 1-2 with a double, two runs and three RBI while Pellegrin added two hits, a run and an RBI.
Sturdivant had the lone hit for the Bearcats as he singled in Larry Kimber in the fourth inning.
Daniel Posway pitched five innings and allowed just one earned run on two hits in the second game of the doubleheader, earning his first win of the season. Loyola scored all 18 runs in the first three innings.
The Pack was walked five times in the first inning, leading to six runs scored. Lorenzo had a two-run double down the left line for the Wolf Pack's only hit of the inning. In Loyola's seven-run second inning, Lorenzo and Rawlings Elam both had singles that drove in two runners. Lorenzo drove in another run in the third inning as he scored Pellegrin with a double to deep left center.
Lorenzo finished the game 3-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Elam went 2-3 in the leadoff spot with two runs scored and two RBI. Allen Newman and Peyton Senner both added hits for the Pack while Aaron Inman racked up two stolen bases.
Kimber and Adonis Golden were the only Bearcats to get a hit in the second game. Maurice Futrell picked up the loss for Rust, giving up six earned runs in one inning.
Loyola and Rust will go at it again tomorrow, with the first game of the doubleheader kicking off at 1 p.m. at Segnette Field.
