Looking to avenge a 77-74 loss from earlier this season, the No. 13 Loyola University New Orleans Women's Basketball team welcomed USCAA Concordia College (Ala.) to The Den on Friday for a post-Thanksgiving matchup. Powered by three players in double-figures, the Wolf Pack downed the Lady Hornets 67-58 to earn their third-straight victory.
Loyola improves to 5-2 overall and 4-0 at home following the win.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage to start the first quarter, before a 4-1 run by the Wolf Pack brought the home team within one, 5-4, with 7:16 to play in the quarter. Concordia held the lead for the next six minutes, until a long triple by Sr. G Briana Oglesby (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School) put Loyola up 18-16 with under a minute to play in the first quarter. Neither team was able to find the bottom of the net for the remainder of the quarter and the score stayed 18-16 after the first ten minutes of action.
With the score tied at 26-26 in the second quarter, the Wolf Pack orchestrated a 5-0 run, capped off by two free throws from Sr. F Adrianne Sloboh (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal High School), to go up 31-26 with 2:53 remaining before halftime. With time running out, Sloboh connected on a three pointer from half court to give the Wolf Pack the 36-28 lead heading into the locker rooms.
Loyola took its biggest lead of the game after a jumper from Jr. G Jackie Anderson (San Antonio, Texas/Antonian) brought the score to 45-35 with 4:20 remaining in the third quarter. A layup by Jr. F Meghan Temple(Houston, Texas/Klein) with 20 seconds to play put the Wolf Pack up 15 with just 20 seconds remaining in the third. A triple by Concordia closed out the quarter to bring the score to 53-41 with just one quarter to play.
The fourth quarter saw the Lady Hornets cut the deficit to five, 54-49, with just over six minutes to play. Loyola held tough for the final minutes and kept Concordia from getting any closer en route to the 67-58 victory at home.
For the game, Loyola shot 21-of-60 (35%) from the floor and 7-of-12 (33%) from beyond the arc.
Oglesby led the Wolf Pack with 17 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Templechipped in with 13 points and a team-high nine boards, while Sloboh put up six points and seven rebounds in the victory.
Loyola returns to The Den on Tuesday, Dec. 1, welcoming Southern University New Orleans for a game set to start at 12:30 p.m.
