(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams will return home from Mobile to face local competitor Xavier University tomorrow, January 30 at 3 p.m. at the XU Tennis Center. The Xavier women's squad recently secured a No. 3 position on this season's NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll, while the men's team earned a No. 8 ranking.
Loyola is coming home from a tough season opener in Mobile on Wednesday. Both the men's and women's squads fell to the Rams, 8-1. Senior captain Meghan De Baroncelli and sophomore Alexa Mancuso paired up and took home the sole victory for the Wolf Pack women, defeating Lena Schwerdtfeger and Lea Junggeburth, 8-5, in No. 1 doubles competition. De Baroncelli later fell to Schwerdtfeger in the No. 1 singles round.
Junior David Mayhall earned the only victory for the men on the day, taking down Mobile's Karlis Stonis 6-4, 5-7 (11-9) at the No. 3 singles spot. Freshmen pair Anthony Zaleski and Ricardo Mercado made their debut with the Wolf Pack at the No. 2 doubles position, but fell to the duo of Stonis and Pansera 8-2.
De Baroncelli and Mancuso will pair up again in the No. 1 doubles spot against Xavier. De Baroncelli will play for the Pack in the No. 1 singles spot, while Mancuso will compete at the No. 2 position. Sophomore Trivesh Singh will lead the way for the men, playing in the No. 1 singles spot, while sophomore Federico Mercado and Mayhall pair up in No. 1 doubles.
