(Mobile, Ala.) Loyola University New Orleans men's and women's tennis opened up their 2015 season today in Mobile, Alabama as they faced off against SSAC foe Mobile.
The Wolf Pack women suffered an 8-1 loss to the Rams. Senior Meghan de Baroncelli and sophomore Alexa Mancuso picked up the only win of the day for the women as they defeated Lena Schwerdtfeger and Lea Junggeburth, 8-5, in No. 1 doubles competition. de Baroncelli lost a close match to Schwerdtfeger in No. 1 singles action, 7-5, 6-4.
The Loyola men's team was also handed an 8-1 loss today by the No. 21 Mobile Rams. Junior David Mayhall earned the only victory of the day for the men, beating Karlis Stonis 6-4, 5-7, 11-9, at the No. 3 singles slot. Sophomore Federico Mercado fought hard in the No. 1 singles spot, but came up short versus Cesar Paleari, 6-2, 6-2.
The Wolf Pack will be back in action on Friday, January 30 as they travel across town to take on Xavier at 3 p.m.
