New Orleans, La.- A day after knocking off the seventh ranked team in the NAIA, the Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team couldn't pull off the double as the Wolfpack fell to #12 Southern Poly 73-54 Saturday afternoon in The Den.
Loyola led by as many as seven points in the game. The latest coming with 13:00 remaining in the first half. Rachael Nolan's bucket in the lane gave the Wolfpack a 17-10 lead.
Southern Poly answered with 13 consecutive points culminating with a Brittany White lay-in off a Wolfpack turnover made it 23-17 Poly at the 8:04 mark. The Lady Hornets extended the margin to 32-23 with a pair of free throws by Aurielle Morgan to closeout the half.
In the second half, Jackie Padilla cut the SPSU lead to eight points with a three pointer with 17:56 to play. Loyola would pull no closer as the Lady Hornets grew the advantage to 23 points over the next 11 minutes.
Keiva Council led Loyola (7-3) with 20 points on 4 of 12 shooting from field. Padilla finished with 11.
For Southern Poly (8-1), Marisa Stotler led with 17 points. Jasmine Smith had 14 points, 17 rebounds, and 8 assists. Crystal Davis added 13 in the win.
After a break for exams, Loyola returns to action on December 18 against St. Thomas (FL). Tip off in The Den is slated for 2 p.m.
