Game Recap: Baseball |

No. 14 Baseball hosts Point

The Wolf Pack lost the series to the Skyhawks with two losses on Friday

WESTWEGO – The 14th-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack baseball team suffered a pair of losses to Point University (Ga.) on Friday. The Skyhawks earned a 5-2 win in Game 1 of the three-game SSAC series, then took Friday's nightcap, 4-3.

The two teams will meet back up at Segnette Field on Saturday for a 1 p.m. series finale. Senior Day festivities will begin approximately 30 minutes before first pitch.

GAME 1: Point 5, #14 Loyola 2 (7)

The Skyhawks pushed the game's first run across in the top of the first, but the Pack answered in the bottom half. Drew Lee and Jaxon Buratt started the frame with back-to-back singles, then a throwing error by the Point catcher led to courtesy runner Kash Koontz coming home, 1-1.

After two scoreless innings, Point scored three runs in the fourth to jump ahead, 4-1. The Wolf Pack was held off the board in the bottom half, but they got a run back in the bottom of the fifth. Myles Liggans had a pinch-hit single, and he eventually scored on a Buratt RBI single to right, 4-2. The Skyhawks scored an insurance run in the seventh inning to bring the game to its final.

Cole Bordes pitched three strong innings in relief, as he only gave up one unearned run on two hits.

GAME 2: Point 4, #14 Loyola 3

Point struck first again in the second game of the day, plating one run in the second inning. Loyola tied it and took the lead in the third inning, though, and pushed another run across in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Jovan Swasey led off the third with a walk, and he slid home safely when Liggans reached on a fielder's choice a couple of at-bats later, 1-1. Liggans put the Pack on top, 2-1, when he scored off a Buratt single later in the frame. In the fourth, JJ Garcia started things with a single before crossing home on a passed ball, 3-1.

The Skyhawks pushed three runs across in the seventh inning to take the lead for good, as two pitchers combined to hold Loyola off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Michael Hotard got the no-decision in his start, but he had a gusty performance after allowing the run in the second inning. The junior only allowed one base runner on in the third through sixth innings before Point got two runs off the starter in the seventh.

Pack Facts
