MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Graduate student Jake Cohen has been the most reliable arm out of the ninth-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack bullpen this season, and he was rewarded on Monday with the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honor.Â
Â
Cohen picked up his sixth save of the season last Friday in a 1.2-inning relief performance against the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallions, as he sat down the only five batters he faced. He entered in the eighth inning and struck out two batters, then started the ninth with another strikeout to help close out the 4-2 win.Â
Â
The New Orleans, Louisiana, native has made seven appearances this season and has totaled 9.2 innings with a 0.00 earned run average and six saves. He's struck out 14 of the 37 batters he's faced, which is a 13.03 strikeout per nine-inning average, and he's allowed just six hits and one walk so far this season.Â
Â
Cohen became the second Wolf Pack pitcher to earn the SSAC Pitcher of the Week title, joining his teammate Michael Hotard, who earned it on Feb. 9.Â
Â
Loyola is currently 16-8 overall this season and 3-3 in the Southern States Athletic Conference, and it'll play one game at Segnette Field at 6 p.m. on Tuesday before hitting the road this weekend for a three-game series at Tennessee Southern.Â
