Peters earns first career SSAC weekly award

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the first time in his career, sophomore Jaylen Peters received recognition from the Southern States Athletic Conference. After a solid week on the defensive end of the floor, Peters was voted the SSAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. 
 

It's the fourth weekly award for the men's basketball program this season, as Peters joins Kameron Johnson, Zachary Lee and Kosta Bjelicic to receive an honor. 
 

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native totaled six blocks, two steals, and 15 defensive rebounds in two games last week. The Wolf Pack traveled to Abraham Baldwin and Thomas, and they returned to New Orleans with a pair of wins to improve their record to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in SSAC play. 
 

Peters had a career-high five blocks in the 88-72 win over ABAC, also adding nine defensive rebounds and a steal. In the 83-77 win at Thomas, he recorded six defensive rebounds with one block and one steal. 
 

His 23 total blocks this season are by far the team-high, and it's good for third in the SSAC, as he only averages 17 minutes per game. He only had four blocks in 23 games last season as a freshman. He's also fourth on the team with 15 steals, and he's totaled 89 rebounds this season for a 5.2 rebound-per-game average. 
 

The Wolf Pack returns to The Den this week with games on Thursday and Saturday. They'll host Point University on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and Brewton-Parker Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m.
