NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans men's basketball team won the first of two road games in Georgia this week, defeating Abraham Baldwin, 88-72, on Thursday to start the road trip. The Wolf Pack (12-4, 4-2 in SSAC) is next scheduled to take on Thomas University on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST. in Thomasville, Georgia.
Leonard Jackson got the scoring started with a 3-pointer in the corner, and a Cameron Williams old-fashioned 3-point play put Loyola up 6-2 in the first 90 seconds. Kameron Johnson and Kosta Bjelicic each scored, then Williams made two shots in 20 seconds to make it a 16-10 lead with 13 and a half minutes until halftime. Williams was the first in double figures after a pair of free throws made the score 25-18 near the 10-minute mark.
Bjelicic and Jaylen Peters each made two free throws to maintain a six-point lead, 29-23, and 3-pointers by Georgios Vassilakis and Reece Seicshnaydre pushed the advantage to 10, 39-29 with less than five minutes until the break. Apostolos Paziotopoulos added a 3 during the last couple of minutes, but the Stallions were able to chip into the Wolf Pack's lead before halftime, 44-38.
ABAC started the second half with five straight points to cut Loyola's lead to one, however, the Wolf Pack answered with a 12-3 run to extend the difference back to 10, 56-46. Jackson had five points during that run, including another 3-pointer. Peters and Johnson scored on back-to-back possessions after that, 60-48, then five made free throws contributed to Loyola holding a 65-52 lead with 10 minutes left to play.
Troy Thomas drained a 3 to keep it a double-digit lead a couple of minutes later, 70-58, and another one from beyond the arc for Seicshnaydre pushed the lead to 77-64 with four minutes left. Jackson made the lead 15, 79-64, with 3:50 on the clock, as the Stallions were never able to cut it to single digits from there.
