MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the second straight week, Belén Puche Laguna has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Setter of the Week. Puche received that honor on Monday after dishing out 19 assists in a three-set win over Point University (Ga.) on Saturday.Â
Â
It's her second career SSAC weekly honor as well, and it's the first time since the 2021 season a Loyola student-athlete has won multiple SSAC Setter of the Week awards. It's also the sixth weekly award a Loyola volleyball student-athlete has earned so far this season.Â
Â
Saturday marked Loyola's SSAC opener, and the win moved the Wolf Pack to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in league play. They'll continue SSAC play this week by traveling to Mobile and Faulkner on Friday and Saturday.Â
Â
The Wolf Pack operates a 6-2 system, meaning Puche sees the floor three rotations at a time, splitting time with Ellie Connor, who has one SSAC Setter of the Week title under her belt this season, too. Puche averages 4.89 assists per set with 259 total assists in 14 matches and 53 sets. Her 43 service aces lead the NAIA, and she's second on the team with 114 digs.Â
