NAIA announces Spring Scholar-Athletes Wednesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Loyola University New Orleans Athletic Department set another record this academic year, as the NAIA announced its spring sports Daktronics Scholar-Athletes on Wednesday. Loyola's 46 spring scholar athletes gives the department 89 in total, topping the previous best from last year by six. 
 

This marks the second consecutive year, and only two years, the Wolf Pack Athleteics Department has had 80 or more NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athletes. 
 

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its winter sports Daktronics Scholar-Athletes earlier this semester, honoring 25 Loyola Wolf Pack student-athletes in the process. Loyola had 18 fall sport honored earlier this academic year as well. To qualify as a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and have attended their institution for at least one full year. 
 

The baseball team had 11 honored by the NAIA on Wednesday, and the Wolf Pack women's tennis team was next with eight. The beach volleyball team and the women's track and field programs each had seven reach the scholar-athlete status to highlight the announcement.
