NEW ORLEANS – The No. 23 Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team closed out a busy week with a match against highly ranked Our Lady of the Lake at Dillard University's tennis facility. The No. 7 Saints won the match, 4-2.
Now 5-5 on the season, the Wolf Pack will return to Southern States Athletic Conference competition next weekend at the SSAC Roundup in Montgomery, Ala. The Pack will play conference newcomers Abraham Baldwin before taking on No. 6 Middle Georgia.
Loyola lost in the overall team result, but for the fourth time in the last five matches, the Pack took the doubles point.
The Saints got the first win of doubles on court 2, but the Pack played well on courts 1 and 3. Hippolyte de Preville and Alfredo Gallegos dropped only one game en route to a 6-1 victory, then Remus Hebhang-Balan and Akhil Indrabalan clinched doubles with a 6-2 win.
The Wolf Pack had to deal with three ranked players in singles, including the No. 1 overall player as ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, as OLLU won on the first three courts to begin singles play. Spencer Matz tallied another point for the Pack in singles, winning 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot to bring the overall score in the match to 3-2. The Saints then clinched the match on court 5.
