Smash Bros. sweeps two matches this week

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Esports program concluded the NACE regular season on Thursday, competing in two matches during the week. The Wolf Pack won Tuesday's matchup against St. Cloud State (Minn.), 2-0, then concluded the week with a win over Bellevue (Neb.) on Thursday, 2-0. After the conclusion of the NACE regular season, Loyola stands at a 5-3 overall record, the fourth-best in the nine-team conference.

The Pack started Tuesday's contest against St. Cloud State with a competitive first set. Anthony Nodolski picked up a win in the first fight, then fell to Cloud in the second matchup. After Lily Neeley eliminated Cloud, Malachi Lee took down Joker and King K. Rool to secure set one. Lee began the second crew battle by beating Cloud and Little Mac. After St. Cloud's Joker got wins over Lee and Neeley, Samuel Spiegel took down St. Cloud's final two players to win the match.

In Thursday's Bellevue University match, Neeley's Lucina fell to Cloud in a close 3-2 fight. After Lee entered the fray, the freshman beat Cloud (1-0), Mr. Game & Watch (3-0), Dark Pit (3-0), and Jigglypuff (3-1) to sweep the set and give Loyola a quick lead. Nodolski's Olimar started the second set with a run, defeating Jigglypuff (3-0), Steve (3-1), and Lucario (3-1) to bring out Bellevue's final opponent. After Dark Pit beat Nodolski and Neeley, Spiegel closed things out to conclude Loyola's NACE regular season with a victory.
