MARIETTA, Ga. – The Loyola Wolf Pack volleyball team finished the regular season 24-8 overall and 12-4 in the Southern States Athletic Conference with a win over Life University on Saturday. The Pack won in four sets over the Running Eagles in both teams' season finale, and Loyola locked up the No. 2 seed at next week's SSAC Championship in the process.Â
Â
After the first set started close, the Wolf Pack dominated the rest of the way en route to a 1-0 lead in the match. Juliet Petruzelli had an ace and a kill in the early going, 6-3, but the Running Eagles won five straight points to help flip the lead to their side, 9-6. Clarissa Dupree sparked a quick 4-0 run for Loyola, 12-10, then a kill by Samantha Guillotte started a 5-0 run, 17-11. After Life won a point, a block by Isis Harink and Guillotte led to another 5-0 run, 22-11, and Harink ended the set with her second kill.Â
Â
Life tied the match with a second-set win, but the Wolf Pack answered in the third. Dupree got a few kills to win some early points, but the Running Eagles pulled ahead, 8-5. Guillotte and Harink each found the floor to help give Loyola a lead, 9-8. Life took another lead, 11-9, but Katy Hollingsworth, Alexa Palmer and Harink sparked a run that put Loyola ahead for good, 15-12. Five different attackers recorded a kill after that, and Harink had an ace to help close the set.Â
Â
The Pack carried that momentum into the third set, winning easily to finish the match. Three kills by Palmer helped Loyola get out to an 8-1 lead, and Harink added three kills to extend the advantage to 15-5. The freshman added three more kills, and Ivana De Carvalho Peixe and Dupree each notched two kills to finish off the Running Eagles.Â
