NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team hosted Mobile (Ala.) on Friday in its first Southern States Athletic Conference matchup of the weekend in The Den. The visitors got the win over Loyola in a four-set matchup. The Wolf Pack will play the second match of its two-game home slate on Saturday, when Loyola hosts Faulkner at 1 p.m. in The Den.

The Maroon and Gold started Friday's matchup strong, beginning with a kill from Alexa Palmer. After assisting Palmer's first kill, Ellie Connor helped Isis Harink and Clarissa Dupree notch the next two Wolf Pack points, 3-2. After Kala Emanuelli served an ace, Harink found the floor to go ahead by three, 5-2. After another Palmer point, Belén Puche Laguna served a pair of aces to force a Mobile timeout, 9-4.

After Mobile tied the set at 10-10, the Pack got back in front with kills from Harink and Samantha Guillotte and a block by Ivana De Carvalho Peixe and Katy Hollingsworth, 15-10. The Pack remained ahead from there, closing the set with kills from Harink, Peixe, and Guillotte, 25-19.

The Rams began the charge in the second set, taking a 5-2 advantage. Kills from Palmer and Juliet Petruzelli, along with two Peixe-Harink blocks, tied the set, 6-6. Peixe found the floor twice while Harink collected an ace, pushing the Pack ahead, 9-8. After the Rams went up by one, 13-12, Hollingsworth and Palmer recorded kills with Emanuelli serving back-to-back aces, taking a three-point edge, 16-13. With Loyola up by two, 23-21, Mobile found a way to win the set, tying the match at one set each.

The third set was a contested one, starting with a Wolf Pack lead, 2-0. After the Rams went ahead, 7-5, three Loyola blocks, including Peixe, Harink, and Hollingsworth, added by a Mobile error, put the Pack in front, 9-8. With Mobile up, 13-12, a Hollingsworth block and kills from Dupree and Harink kept the score even, 15-15. Despite Loyola taking a 24-23 lead, Mobile managed to close out the third set, 2-1. From there, Mobile took control in the fourth set to take the conference contest.
